The first section of the Corkscrew Rail Trail opened in June 2015. It begins at Knapp Road in Stephentown and heads south under a shady tree canopy towards New Lebanon, near the New York/Massachusetts border.
On the New Lebanon side, parking is available at Shatford Park, and the Lebanon Depot on Tilden Road on the left - we even have an electric car charger. Walk to the left from the parking lot to see the Lebanon Depot, which we are in the process of renovating! Soon the grocery and Tilden Plaza building will be across Tilden Road, there will be a small park area and the rail trail will continue to the right in the future.
At times, the Trail runs along the scenic Wyomanock Creek, a cold-water stream that supports trout. It winds through an extensive forest (approx. 3,500 acres) offering a chance to glimpse wildlife, including deer, reptiles, beaver, forest birds, and an occasional moose. The variety of vegetation along the trail captures the full range of flora characteristic of this area .
